I've just staggered back to London after an excellent weekend's wildlife exploring in Shetland. More to follow once I've unpacked and triaged the steaming pile of emails that await. To whet your appetites I attach a photo. Roger Riddington (editor of the esteemed
British Birds) aka Strider is on the left, and Martin Garner (uber-birder and author of
Frontiers in Birding) is on the right. We haven't decided which hobbit he is yet. They're looking for a
rostrata Redpoll.

I think it badly needs a caption. Please post your suggestions.

Well it wasn't me!
Rostrata, are they from Mordor Mr Strider?
Don't ask me; I thought it was a Linnet.........
"Are you sure it's not Islandica Martin"....?
If I look silly enough do you think people will have pity on me for putting it out as the wrong species ;-)
As Roger is distracted by a brown finch moving through the trees, Martin takes the opportunity to show what he really thought about having his latest ID paper rejected by BB.
'Roger, for God sake man let's face it, Slender-billed Curlew on a nutbag was always unlikely!'
"I hope Roger doesn't share an office if he does that all the time!"
Forget the redpoll I think I've just stepped on a Lanceloted!
